4 Socially Distanced Activities in Pittsburgh

Before you head out, there are a few guidelines you should follow to keep yourself and others safe. According to the most recent orders from the state of Pennsylvania, masks must be worn whenever you leave your home, and large indoor and outdoor gatherings should be avoided. Don’t forget to maintain social distance, too!

So, without further ado, here’s our list of some of fun things you can do in Pittsburgh right now.

Located in the heart of the Oakland neighborhood, the historic Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offers visitors an opportunity to explore the city’s local flora and fauna. Be sure to check out their annual summer flower show, as well as the wide variety of greenhouses and curated landscape displays.

All tickets must be purchased in advance and masks are required for entry. The Phipps is also offering online gardening and cooking classes for those who prefer to stay home.

To start your hunt, just purchase a ticket through their app or website—no guides or scheduling required! Let’s Roam also has special packages for date nights, birthdays, and countless other events.

Take a virtual class at Carnegie-Mellon

Taking a virtual class

You’re never too old to learn something new—and nowadays, you can even take college courses from the comfort of your couch. If you’d rather spend the day indoors, consider taking a virtual class from Carnegie-Mellon University’s Open Learning Initiative. Many of the courses are free and cover a wide range of topics, including business, science, and language.

While these classes won’t give you college credit, they’re a great way to broaden your horizons at your own pace.

Explore the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium have officially reopened for the summer season, which means you can now visit with over 4,000 furry, scaled, and feathered creatures. And if you’d rather plan an at-home adventure, you can view some of the most popular exhibits from your phone!

The zoo recommends (but does not require) that tickets be purchased in advance, and all visitors over the age of two have to wear a mask. Some services, such as the zoo tram, multiple rides, and sit-down dining, have also been suspended until further notice.
