“It’s truly an honor to receive this distinguished award in honor of Carol Foley who I had the pleasure to serve with on the PT Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years on various committee’s & Board positions with as well as she was a personal friend. She was a significant asset not only to the Chamber, but also the Community as well as many other organizations she participated in. She positively touched many lives!”
Greg Gold, the owner and general manager of Miller’s Ace Hardware and the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman, nominated Jim. Greg nominated Jim because he believed that Jim demonstrated the core values that this Carol Foley Character Counts Award represents; respect, responsibility, and honesty.
According to Brian Schill, the Executive Director of the Peters Township Chambers of Commerce, the award is named
“For Carol Foley who served for a quarter of a century as the PT Chamber Executive Director, she was well known and well loved, a true pillar of the community.”
Greg Gold and Linda Webster received the first Carol Foley award, and Megan Chicone received the second annual Carol Foley Award. Greg Gold’s nomination for Jim can be read below;
“I have known Jim for many years. I first got to know him as a regular customer at Miller’s Ace Hardware where I have worked for many years and now am the owner. Jim was always friendly and engaging, wanting to know that others were doing well and that business was good. As a fellow businessman in Peters Township, Jim had an understanding of what it meant to be successful in business and how important it was to support the community that supported our businesses.
I got to know Jim much better when I joined the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce board of directors in 2012. Jim was serving the last year of his second three-year volunteer term on the board as a director and was also the board’s treasurer that year. Jim was a great example of what a non-profit board director should be. He always conducted himself professionally and with the utmost respect for everyone else on the board. As the board’s treasurer that year, he exhibited great responsibility in working with Carol, our Executive Director, and the rest of the board’s officers to make sure we remained on course with our finances and planning. In that year, I was able to learn a great deal from Jim just by observing how he carried himself and worked with others. Jim put the goals and objectives of the group before himself and was always honest and fair as he worked with others in the group to accomplish these tasks. As a businessman in Peters, Jim understood the importance of helping other businesses succeed and grow which made him a valuable member of this board.
Jim is well known in Peters as a very successful realtor and I have often referred to him as one of the “Faces of Peters” as you can’t drive very far without seeing his face on a Century 21 Frontier Realty sign in someone’s front yard. What you may not know about Jim is that he also gives back to the community and others in many ways. He and his company hold several fundraising events each year to benefit the Easter Seals of Western and Central PA. He and his team hold a sporting clay shoot in the spring and a casino night in the fall each year and have raised tens of thousands of dollars in support of this most worthwhile cause. Jim is also very active each year in support of Peters Township Community Day. His team always has a booth with great activities and he also helps the committee with the prizes that are awarded each year. Jim and his team also hold an annual customer appreciation event as a thank you to his many clients and long-time friends and associates. Jim truly values these relationships long after the business transaction. Jim and his team have also always been very willing and generous in their support of other fundraising endeavors in the community.
Jim has clearly demonstrated to me the core values of Character Counts; respect, responsibility and honesty and would be a very deserving recipient of the 3rd annual Carol Foley Character Counts Award.”
