4 Devices to Upgrade To Create “The Smart Home”

4 Devices to Upgrade To Create “The Smart Home”Yes the term “smart home” is still in quotation marks because it’s not yet a reality, according to Business Insider. But if you’re looking to sell your home and appeal to the Millennial generation (because they’re expected to be the largest group of buyers in 2016 according to a previous blog) then you might want to consider adding these gadgets to make your home more technology-friendly, according to Business Insider.

  1. Thermostat

Business Insider claims that using a tech-friendly thermostat is “the face of the smart home” and gives to top choices to pick from – the Nest Learning Thermostat and the ecobee3. Whether you chose one of these or chose a “smart thermostat” of your own, they are very good looking devices that are able to automatically adjust to your schedule. For example if you turn your heat down while you are at work during the colder months as our blog about Saving Time, Money & Energy With These Easy Home Winterizing Tips! suggests, then your smart thermostat will realize this and do it automatically. Most smart thermostats are also able to be controlled from an app on your so you never have to leave the comfort of your own bed if you are getting too hot or too cold!

  1. Lighting

The lighting system Phillips Hue is another one that can be controlled from an app on your phone. While on the more expensive side this can really make your home feel like a smart home by giving your lights a blue hue.

  1. Smoke Detectors

Most of these smart devices will give your home a sleeker, more compact look and the smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector is no exception. Not only is it better looking than your old smoke detector but, yet again thanks to being controlled to an app on your phone, it will send an alert to your phone if something happens while you are away. Also while with the old smoke detectors would make you crazy if you accidentally burnt something on the stove until you disconnected it, you can easily turn off an accidental smoke alarm from the convenience of your phone.

  1. Security Cameras

Business Insider suggests using Nest Cam to increase the security of your home because it gives a wide-angle 1080p stream. Like the previous devices this feed can be sent to your phone and you can receive alerts of suspicious activity ever half-hour. Old footage can also be stored on a cloud device.
